It’s race week! 
We’re only 5 days out from the Vienna City Marathon, so in this edition of The Salty Sports Weekly, we’re recapping our latest adventures and gearing up for the next one. 

SHAKE-OUT RUN RECAP

In collaboration with CNDO, we took over the streets of Berlin for a Shake-out run that set the city's heart racing. A massive shout-out to everyone who joined us for the run and shared good vibes and better strides. Also cheers to our very own Jannis & Maximilian who smashed the Berlin Half Marathon! TIP OF THE WEEK

With the Vienna City Marathon just around the corner, it's time to fine-tune your performance. Before the race, it's essential to relax your body and allow it to recover from all the training you've done, preparing it to excel on race day. Ensure you get plenty of sleep the week before the marathon, because sleep the night before the marathon is almost never great. Also don’t forget to stay hydrated, and focus on nutrition to support your body's recovery process.

Speaking of nutrition, you may have heard of carb loading. This strategy aims to maximize glycogen stores in your muscles, providing a readily available source of energy during the race. To carb load effectively, prioritize consuming plenty of complex carbohydrates such as pasta, rice, bread, and potatoes in the days leading up to the race. Avoid high-fat and high-fiber foods that may be more challenging to digest. It's also crucial to stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet overall to optimize your performance on race day. On the day of the race, aim to have your last meal 2-3 hours beforehand. Focus on consuming easily digestible foods like bananas, honey, bagels, and toast.

VIENNA CITY MARATHON WEEKEND

Whether you're racing this weekend or not, we've got some cool events coming up! On Saturday at 9:00 AM, we kick off with a shakeout run through the streets of Vienna, starting and ending at NO PANIC Coffee Vienna (find details below). For everyone who wants to support the Salty Sports family, we have cheering zones at KM 20 and KM 41.5 together with ON! And, of course, we have to celebrate this with some good music and drinks on Sunday night, starting at 6:00 PM at Enzo Vienna! Entry is €10 and free for those who join the shakeout run!
